How Often Should You Update Your Blog

One question that is being asked often in the blogosphere is the question of how often a blog should be updated. We all want working formulas and at the same time we also want to please our audience.

Even though there is no set formula for updating a blog there are some factors you can consider that will help you get the best from your blog in terms of updating it. This post will be giving you some tips on how often you should be updating your blog.

Know Your Audience

There is no fixed formula or rule on updating a blog and how often you update a blog depends majorly on your audience. Some blog types require you to be updating your blog several times a day while other blogs will do well with you updating your blog once a week. Some audience are okay with you updating your blog everyday while it can be really frustrating to others so it doesn’t matter how capable you are as a blogger, your audience will go a long way to determine how often your blog should be updated. Two typical examples are the technology niche and the personal development niche, you can succeed in the technology niche by writing very short articles several times a day but you will have more chances of success in the personal development niche by updating once or twice in a week with a more detailed article.

The Length of the Article

Another important factor you should consider when deciding how often you will be updating your blog is the length of the article. It can be really boring to your readers if you keep writing several thousand words article everyday but they will be far okay with two or three of these in a week.

Your Capacity as a Blogger

It is also very important to know how effective you can be when trying to choose how often you will be updating your blog because consistency is very important and should be factored in when you’re doing anything as a blogger. If you plan to be updating your blog with longer articles once in a week and you suddenly stopped updating for a month your users will have the impression that you’ve stopped blogging or that something is wrong with you so they might stop reading your blog. It doesn’t matter how often you want to be updating your blog or how long you want your articles to be, always make sure you’re consistent with it.

8 Fast Ways to Generate Great Content for your Company Blog

Content creation can be a timely process especially when you add on the stress of delivering fresh content to your business blog on consistent basis. Many business owners will jump right into writing content for their blog but soon feel the burn from the time they must invest nearly each day to develop something new for their community. This post will share eight different ways you can generate great content for your business within a very limited time-frame.

1.   Record a Video and Transcribe It

Consider recording a video of yourself if writing isn’t your strong point. Once you have a video recorded you can transcribe the audio into a written post. Additionally, you can then post the video online to have another medium to engage your community!

2.   Use Voice Capture Software

There are many different voice capture software tools on the market today that will record your voice and type for you as you talk. You’re most likely more comfortable with speaking; use this to your advantage by combining your voice with software to write the posts for you!

3.   Compile a Roundup of Your Favorite Posts

Collect your favorite posts within your niche and round them up into their own post. Write about why you like each to add to the overall value of the post. Having posts from your competition doesn’t drive people away; it brings people to you because you’re the one willing to share valuable information.

4.   Flip Common Questions into Blog Content

Turn the most common questions you receive at your business into posts of their own. Instead of spending hours trying to think of a great topic just tap into your tech support logs or live person data to see which questions you can flip into content – quick and easy!

5.   Purchase and Build upon Freelance Articles

Consider spending money on your content if you’re strapped for time. You will still find quality content from freelance writers on the web if you take the time. The money you spend on articles could free up your time to work on the larger part of your business and avoid “wasting” your precious day toward solely creating content for the blog.

6.   Generate a Helpful List on a Particular Subject

Compile a list of the best posts, quotes, videos, audio and more about a particular subject within your niche market. Try your best to create an “essential” list post that people will be likely to share with others since it’s deemed so valuable (in time and resources for the readers).

7.   Interview an A-Player in your Market

Find people that are leaving an impact within your niche and ask for an interview; record your talk with this person and share it on your company blog. Not only will you deliver relevant content to your community but you’ll be exposed to the interviewee’s community at the same time!

8.   Let your Employees Write Content

Tap into your employees for content creation; their daily interaction with your customers have created a treasure trove of information that could easily be turned into new content for your company blog. Edit each post if need be but otherwise let your employees tell the real tale of what goes on in your niche, business and community as a whole – keep it human.

Conclusion: -

Although you may feel rushed to create content and have a lingering feeling that what you create may not work well – remember that it’s often better to stay consistent rather than miss days (or weeks) on your blog which eventually lead to people dropping out and never coming back. You can still create great content in a timely manner; this post shared eight that you can start with when you’re strapped for time.

What is Relationship Marketing?

Some of the newest buzz words around the internet are relationship marketing and attraction marketing.

What is relationship marketing and how does it work? In the simplest terms it just means that you put people first; before the money, before the traffic stats, before the fancy website. People don’t care how elaborate your website is or how many products you offer. People are your business, not your website or your products. Your website and products are mainly a way to help people solve their problems. You can have a dozen great products but without people you don’t have a business.

One key point to remember and the reason for relationship marketing is that people buy from people they like and trust. If you aren’t taking care of people and getting them to like you, they will never buy your product or a product you recommend. It’s that simple. You may get a few initial sales but if you don’t get up close and personal with your audience they won’t spread the word about you, sales and traffic will drop off and your business will die.

Money is great, but forget the money and take care of the people. Don’t let the money be your driving force. Your audience will appreciate it, return for more and tell others about you. The money always follows the people, cater to the people and solve their problems. This is the very basis of relationship marketing.

How can you develop a closer relationship with your audience? By sharing a little bit of yourself on a personal level, but never go overboard with it. Ninety percent of your material should be about solving other people’s problems. You can relate your personal story to the problem, but keep it very basic.

Twitter and Facebook are great places to share more of your personal life. People get tired of following someone who is all business all the time, so be a little more personable on social networks. Let your readers know you have a family, share things you do on the weekends, tell them about your pets or places you go. Find a happy balance between work and play on social networks and you’ll get a bigger following than you thought possible.

Relationship marketing is about people and how you connect with them.

Do you have a way that you’ve connected with your audience? Please share what’s worked for you or what didn’t work for you in the comments section.

5 Things That Can Keep You From Making Money

We all want to make money, that’s the main reason that many of us are online. We read everything we can, take courses, watch others, but sometimes we just don’t see the success we want. What can be keeping us from making money?

HERE’S 5 THINGS THAT CAN KEEP YOU FROM MAKING MONEY: -

·        WRONG BUSINESS MODEL: - Having the wrong business model or not treating your work like a business can lead to frustration and low income. Find a better business model and start using it.

·        TRYING TO BE PERFECT: - No one can be perfect and no one expects you to be perfect. Perfectionists often wait to promote anything, or write a blog post, or get social with people. They think everything has to be in place before they can start.

It’s okay to not be perfect. In fact, people will like you more if they see you as human and make a mistake once in awhile. It doesn’t matter if everything is in place–get out there and promote your website. Let your readers watch it grow and they will grow with you.

·        MARKETING FIRST: If you’re marketing before you’re ready, people will see that and think you’re only after the sale. Gain their trust first, market when it’s time.

·        TRYING TO SELL BEFORE YOU SERVE: If you’re not in business to serve others; with information, coaching, products, etc. then you will never see the sales you desire. People buy from people that they know and trust. Serve the people before you sell to them. Also, if you’ve been serving the people and have failed to sell them anything that could be another reason you aren’t seeing income.

·        NOT ATTRACTING CLIENTS: If you aren’t attracting a target audience, you will not see any sales. This could be from you not actively trying to attract clients or from trying to attract the wrong market. Define your target audience and then go after them–but serve them first before you start selling to them.

RECAP: -

·        Find a business model that works.

·        Stop being a perfectionist.

·        Serve first.

·        Attract the right clients.

Remember, “You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.”

Do you have any great business building tips to share with us? We’d love to hear from you.

Most Bloggers Forget This Simple Rule. Do You?

When I wrote “most bloggers” in the title, I was including myself. In fact I forget this rule 80% of the time probably. Want to know what rule I am talking about? It is this one: -

Include one image on each blog post you publish.

This rule is important for a couple of reasons. First of all adding images to your blog posts will help you capture the attention of distracted readers and encourage them to read your post.

Second, having images around will improve the design of your blog and make it more appealing.

Third, images can be a good source of search engine traffic, especially every post you publish has one (i.e., over time the combined traffic you’ll get for your images will add up).

So why do most bloggers forget this simple rule? Probably because they get lazy over time. That is my case at least. The solution is to force yourself to add those images initially, until you develop the habit.

How Planning Helps Your Blogging

“If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.”

Do you plan? How important is planning in regards to blogging?

You probably know that having a plan is crucial to your success in everything in life including blogging. When it comes to blogging, you have to know what you are doing and where you are going.

Anyone nowadays can make a blog, put on some posts and starts to work on getting more traffic and make the blog popular. However, if you goal is to have your own e-business online then it is very imperative to have a plan and a vision to where you are going.

·        Plan your posts: -

Planning your posts is crucial. You should try to have posts that are ready for publishing for a minimum of one week. You never know what could happen in a week as you might get sick, go on a vacation, or get busy with family, among other things. This is why planning your posts in advance is a crucial part if you want your blog and e-business to flourish.

·        Plan to create products: -

If you want to succeed in your blog and e-business, then you probably want to create your own products. You would earn way more than marketing someone else’s products if your goal is to make money. It is crucial to know what products you are going to release this year and how much time it takes you to complete each product.

Personally, I know the products that I’m going to be releasing this year including how long it will take me to finish each product. Having a written plan is half the work.

·        Plan your time: -

One of the major excuses I hear is that bloggers say they don’t have enough time to write posts more frequently, find time to write their own products. The truth is you do have time. For instance, if you spend one hour a day writing content for your product, that is around 30 hours a month. You would be surprised what you can accomplish with those hours.

If you don’t manage your time correctly, then you will not be able to work on creating posts and products in a timely manner, which could harm your blog and e-business. Time management is crucial to the success of every business.

·        Plan how to market strategically: -

Are you going to use social media to market your blog and e-business? If so,how often? Are you going to work on writing guest posts? Are you going on building relationships with other bloggers? These are all questions that have to be taken into consideration.

Having a strategic plan is crucial to your success online. Many seem to create blogs without having a clear marketing plan. Think about it, if you don’t have a specific plan, how can you succeed at your blog or e-business? The more you spend time marketing, the more traffic you will get.

How To Track Visitors And Optimize Your Website

Tracking your visitor’s activity on your blog is an important part of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). So, if you haven't yet accessed the "Stats" section of your Blogger Account - then do it right now. Blogger Stats is relatively new and limited in terms of the information these tools provide, so even now I advise everyone to sign up at the below mentioned websites/services, start tracking to give your visitors what they want (that's what SEO is all about)...

You would have seen many fancy and flashy visitor counters in hundreds or rather thousands of blogs, but simply counting the number of visitors or page views is totally of no use to any blogger or webmaster. Visitor-Tracking is a much more advanced and useful method as compared to those simple counters.

So here's a list of important tracking websites, providing free and fabulous features to all the bloggers...

The tracking reports and statistics from these websites mainly contain: -

·      Of course, unique visits & page views, averaged and archived to weekly, monthly and yearly graphs. (And all the reports are in real time)

·      You can also view the details like, visitors IP addresses, time spent by them browsing your website, pages visited, and their returning visits. Moreover, you can even check the operating system your visitor is using, their screen resolution, their browser with version and whether Java or Flash is enabled on their system or not.

·       And the most important statistical-reports for you are of course related to Search Engine Optimization (SEO); these include the keywords through which they entered your site, list of search engines which referred visitors to your website.

You can easily track the activities of your visitors for completely FREE, by placing simple JavaScripts on your blog provided by websites like StatCounter and Google. Statcounter gives a simple script, which when placed in to your template starts collecting all the above mentioned information, which is then displayed to you. The stats are simple to browse-through and understand. Using these stats you can improve your blogs structure & content. You should also focus and improve the important posts of your blog which bring maximum traffic to you.

The most important tracking site of course belongs to Google. Being a blogger you cannot afford to miss this one: Google Analytics. Although it may take a little more time to understand all the statistical data displayed at G-Analytics completely and even more time to analyse the data and use it to effectively plan your SEO strategies, but being a Google product it will not only provide complete tracking details as provided by other similar services, but it does help a lot in Search engine optimization (SEO) too.

In Statcounter, to get some of the advanced features, including an increase in log size, a paid account or an upgrade is needed, but at Google-Analytics everything is free, rather they even have an advanced beta section for interested members.

And finally a must for everybody is an account in Google Webmaster Tools, where you have to simply submit your websites sitemap to access the most important SEO details. The stats shown by GWT are not directly about your visitors, but you can see the number of pages indexed by Google, pages/articles deleted by you, pages restricted for Google. And you can even see how many website/webpages around the Internet have linked to your website (and to which specific page). How well your internal pages are connected. And again, one of the most important, you will be shown how many pages of your website has high, medium, low or no PageRank.

So finally I will suggest you to get an account in: -

·        Google Analytics

·        Google Webmaster Tools

·        Statcounter

7 On Page SEO Tips for Bloggers

When you are thinking of search engine optimization, there are two aspects of search engine optimization techniques: they are on-page and off-page search engine optimization. On-Page is nothing but what you do in your webpage and Off-page is what you do outside of your page.

Here we will discuss on some of the on-page search engine optimization techniques which will help you to rank high in search engines.

·        Use relevant keywords for the Domian Name: -

Despite the presence of many websites performing well without keywords in their domain name, having the keywords is better to get noticed by the crawlers and also when you use social media like Facebook and Twitter for promoting your website. However, for SEO, this is a necessary that the domain name should contain the main keyword phrase of your blog which will help you to rank higher. All you need to do is a small SEO keyword research and some time to come up with excellent keyword phrases for your domain name.

·        Great Headline is Great SEO optimization: -
Apart from optimizing headlines, it is necessary to write great headlines that will be incorporated using the headline H1 tag, which could also act as the title for your Webpage. It is also highly advised to add primary keyword in the headline which will boost up the search engine ranking for sure. There should be no compromise on great titles for the cause of incorporating headlines.

·        Use Web analytics Tools: -
It is very essential that you use web analytics tool software right from the beginning so that you can keep track of your achievements right from the scratch and the reports and graphs will tell you how and what techniques are working well for you to keep going up in the graph.

·        Permalinks: -
This is the most important part of the SEO optimization as the use of keywords in the URL is going to make your article being easily recognized and fetched by web crawlers sent to the search engines and you will be able to thereby build higher ranking WebPages. The URL should contain the primary keywords as a must and also it is advised to have secondary keywords also if possible. Make sure it does not look spammy.

·        Usage of Keywords: -
It is very necessary to know the appropriate use of keywords in the appropriate places. In the first instance, it is mandatory that the first and the concluding paragraphs contain the primary keywords, while the secondary keywords and their variations are spread throughout the rest of the article. Keywords used in the article should be natural and should not look like injected for optimization. Also make sure you add keywords only 3% and not more than that as anything more than that will look like keyword stuffing. Google has recently revised the SEO algorithm on this point as they are strictly against content farms now.

·        Make use of the Alt Tag: -
When you are using images make use of the Alt tags. Make sure you give your primary keyword as Alt Tag which will help the image rank in the searches. Also make sure you add some relevant keywords in and around the image when you post it inside the post.

·        Commit and Focus only on your optimization Techniques: -
Last but not the least, SEO keeps changing with time and you will find that search engine keeps changing their algorithms regularly and so what worked last year will not necessarily help you this season and also the competition out in this market is pretty much higher. To be successful in on-page SEO you need to be committed with a long term outlook of the end results. So do not think of anything just work and wait for your results.

Understand Your Site’s Traffic

When people arrive at your blog, they’ve all come from somewhere on the World Wide Web. They could have found you on a search engine, they could have known about your site already, or they could have come from any one of a million other places.

But all of these different types of visitors have a certain frame of mind when they visit your site. Almost always, they will have a different reason for coming to your site. In this post, I’m going to explore those reasons from a psychological perspective so that we can understand the actions people generally tend to perform when they come to your site from a certain traffic source.

Search engine traffic: -

When people find a site through the search engines, they’re generally looking for answers to a specific question, or information on a certain topic.

Consider the very nature of search engines: you type in what you want, and hopefully the answer comes up. This means that visitors who come from the search engines are likely to be visitors who want to stay and read your content to find the answers they were looking for. If they don’t find those answers in your content, they may find the answer in one of your ads. In general, this means that you’ll tend to get higher ad clickthrough rates from search engine visitors.

A study performed by iProspect showed that in recent years, people have begun to trust the results from search engines, and this can have a knock-on effect for your site. If you are at the top of the search results for a particular search term, that can increase the awareness around your brand.

This study also showed that if you are the number one for a particular keyword then a small majority of people will perceive you as an authority in your niche. This can affect the way that people react when they come to your site. If you are perceived as having a good brand before new visitors come to your site, then you already have a small element of trust from them—and that might encourage them to do things like sign up to your emailing list or your feed.

Direct traffic: -

Direct traffic is traffic that comes from people typing your website address directly into their address bar. This is a good form of traffic because if people already know your website address, that means that your site was memorable enough for users to recall it.

Because this type of traffic consists almost entirely of past visitors, you know these people are coming to your website to see what your latest content is. That means that the probability of this kind of traffic clicking on your ads is low, because they may have ad blindness.

What they are likely to do, if they haven’t already, is to get more involved in your blog by joining your various social networking groups and subscribing to your blog feed. Also, users coming to your site as direct traffic are the most likely to leave comments on your posts, because they want to try and shape their favorite blog a little with their own personalities.

Social media traffic: -

The psychology around the whole social media revolution always seems to fall back on the desire of the user to be noticed and have their own personal space online. There are some very interesting points made in this article which discusses what people are looking for when they are searching on social media sites.

The gist of it is that people who use social media either want to be sociable with friends or to be entertained. This usually leads to high bounce rates for those types of visitors, because once they’ve seen your blog, they’ve got their quick entertainment and are ready to move on. This is a particular issue on sites like stumbleupon, where users are encouraged to quickly flit from one site to the next.

The thing that social media traffic is good for, however, is getting your content to go viral. Because of these users’ tendency to quickly browse from one site to the next, if someone does find something that they really like, they’ll share it. As soon as you get people talking about your content, product, image, and so on, they will spread it for you, because it’s entertaining or particularly useful.

Referral traffic: -

There are some similarities between referral traffic and social media traffic but I have made the distinction because I believe there is a difference in being told about something by a friend or being told about something by a web developer.

When you’re told about something by a friend, you’re generally going to check it out, because you want to see what information or fun it can give you, rather than because you trust the friend’s advice. If a web developer that you trust tells you about it, you are going to look at it in almost the same way, except that this time the advice is coming from a trusted professional. It is a little bit like being told about an illness by a doctor and a friend who has read about the illness in a book. You trust both, but somehow you will edge towards the doctor’s opinion.

That analogy doesn’t work for all kinds of referral traffic, however. When you click through a link in a blog roll, for example, you trust that the blog owner has chosen a good partner site, and you are going on the anchor text keywords provided.

Traffic that comes to your site in this way is much more likely to have a higher bounce rate, and lower interactivity with your site, because these users don’t have much information to go on before they visit. If, on the other hand, they’re being referred by a link in the content or a link from a guest author, then they’re much more likely to stay because they have heard from a trusted source (the referring blog owner) that site has something useful on it, or they are interested in more of what the guest author has to say.

For these last two types of referral traffic—guest posts and in-text links—the most likely things these visitors will do is read a bit of your content to see if that helps them. If it does, they may be encouraged to interact with your site by signing up to your Twitter account, RSS feed, and so on. The key with referral traffic is that you have to either catch the visitor’s interest, or answer a question that they have, before they will add you to their social network.

Paid advertising: -

I won’t say much about this form of traffic because it is very similar to search engine traffic from a psychological perspective—but it does have one key difference.

People who click on these links don’t mind clicking on ads. There are some people who refuse on principle to click on any ads; others who don’t want to will do so on the odd occasion. But a visitor who comes to you through an ad is likely to click on ads on your site. There is the problem, however, that if they have already clicked on one link and not found the answer to their question, they will click away. This is why most people who use paid advertising do it with one-page sites that contain instant and direct calls to action.

Which traffic methods are for you?

Each of these different traffic generation methods has its uses and, depending on what direction you would like your blog to take, you should target each appropriately.

If you’re after new visitors, and you’d like more advertising clicks, then target search engine traffic. But if you would like to have more email sign ups and blog interaction, then I would suggest seeking referral traffic through, for example, guest posting. This way is the best to ensure that you get traffic that is already interested in both blogs in general and, more specifically, your topic.

For a more specific type of blog, like a photo or video blog, social media traffic is probably your best bet because visual content can attract a lot of attention from the difficult-to-please social media audience, who are, after all, often looking for distractions.

Have you found any particular trends to come out of your traffic from different sources? Can you think of any other sources of traffic that have different behaviors from these?
